Why Silence?????????
For a long time i've been intending to blog on some social issue.i think most bloggers will agree when i say that when u wanna blog having something particular in your mind, you almost never end up doing it,most of the posts come spontaneously, when you least intend it and I'm in no way different.Anyways let me get straight to the point.Rape,eve-teasing are some issues tat continue to haunt our society.Ok,you must be thinking here comes an intense and emotional article tat's gonna make men appear more villainous than the amrish puris or the prakash rajs.Well, i'm not gonna sound like a feminist cos i'm not one.
This is about something, every gal who travels by our very own Pallavan bus, wud have experienced atleast once.No prizes for guessing, i'm talking about the problems which the fairer sex face from their male counterparts. Before i start, i'll make one thing clear that i'm not attempting a thought provoking article,i'm jus going to let out all the anger and frustrations inside me.It's a familiar scene, where a guy attempts to fall on a gal when the bus brakes, clinging on to her as if she were the only means to prevent his fall, making those black rods that were laid as support handles look utterly useless.
I'm going to narrate an incident that had happened once when my friend was taking a bus back home from a theatre. The bus was heavily crowded, she had no choice but to take it as it was already getting late. After getting her ticket, she was standing near the conductor's seat with one hand holding tightly for support and having her bag on the other.Suddenly she felt something running over her from the backside of her neck all the way thro her spine and then moving to her legs, she flinched and turned around to see a guy giving her a wicked smile. She was too shocked to react she tried to move away from him,to keep a good distance but to her horror the guy didn't seem to give up as he tried to close up the distance between them.Somehow she managed to get away from that rogue keeping the crowd between herself and that guy and to her relief the guy got down at the next stop.
As she told me about it,my immediate reaction was "you shouldn't have been silent tat rogue shud have been sent to jail" and am sure most of you wud have felt the same. But, my friend shot back saying,"And what's gonna come outta that,i wud jus end up reaching home late." I was shocked by her attitude. But,then it's not jus my friend i found that many prefer silence and tolerance rather than reacting to it.The other day i was watching Anniyan on tv,i'm sure u guys wud remember the scene where a guy, who misbehaves with sada and vikram hands him over to the police.Instead of being thankful the gal complains that because of him she's late for college and says "If one is gonna worry about all these then one needs an incubator to go to college." What a line!!!I was thoroughly exasperated ,now since when have we gals started developing such a strong sense of tolerance? Does anyone realise that tolerating them would only encourage them? Agreed punishing one is not goin to change the whole world but does that mean we need to tolerate in silence?
Apart from your comments,I want to know about your take on this ppl. What do you think is the best way to deal with this?
PS: Have i sounded very dramatic, but i already warned you that i'm going to let out all my anger and frustrations so i guess it's acceptable;-)

eve teasers need to be punished....agreed...but like u said..no girl wants to get into tat problem...
our society being wat it is today...for a girl to go to the police and complain itself becomes a big issue and tat if anything worsens the situation rather than helping solve it...wat with the number of visits tat u are forced to undertake to the station and the amount of red tapism u hav to face...this becomes a greater evil with everyone around u creating an issue out of it....
i think that this attitude will change only if speedy justice is meted out in a hassle free manner...when tat will happen....GOK....

Hi Revathy,
This is really a burning topic.
Acc to me, first of all, We'd like to emphasize on one thing. Do all of us realize, what make these goddamn ppl do whatever they want?
And why not us?
I'd like to include the basic education (be it in school or home).
There are three sections in ur friend's incident.
1. The action of that man.
2. The reaction of your friend.
3. The reason of your friend(for not making a reaction)
#1 was made because that man was not educated to do that. It was utter lust conceived through daily routine, ruined education and unsatisfied addiction.
#2 is the main crisis of our country. Your friend din't do that. Cause, she was in a shock. Doesn't know what to do. ...
#3 is cause ur friend had been told (and it is told to everyone of us) a million times to reach home before getting late.
But, probably never had she been told abt what to do, when it is a deadlock issue, that she can't get late. Be it, robbery, harassment, or even rape.
I find education (both from home and school) (priority is Home) is necessary that should be a part of our social system to eradicate these social evils. Blogging might not be a solution. But, the solutions are always there. All it needs is a conversation and communication.
I am glad that you posted this Reavathy. We might not take it to everyone in India. But, If we four ppl know abt it. May be, we can communicate , forward this topic in this blog to other ppl. And, only if we can deliver this education to our younger siblings, or our children(mind you, I used to talk abt this with my only sister so that she doesn't feel, she's not safe or I will scold on her when she's late) or anyone who is in need of this, We can create a path.
I'm not seriously talking about Sex education. But, that might be one of the several options.
